What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday has been making a major impact on nonprofit organizations and the millions of people they serve since 2012. This global generosity movement encourages people around the world to participate in charitable giving. The worldwide day of giving also serves to inspire people to volunteer, donate goods, and perform random acts of kindness in their communities.
When is Giving Tuesday?
Each year, Giving Tuesday falls on the first Tuesday after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. Giving Tuesday will take place on Tuesday, December 3 in 2024.
This date was selected to celebrate generosity following the retail sales and consumerism that take place on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. It also serves as a global day of giving to kick off the holiday season and year-end fundraising campaigns!
How do nonprofits participate in Giving Tuesday?
There's no need to sign up - just join the conversation! Post on social media using "#GivingTuesday" and encourage your supporters to donate to support your mission on this global giving day.
To give their Giving Tuesday fundraising a boost, many nonprofits develop a crowdfunding campaign encouraging people to donate to their cause on this day, sometimes continuing throughout the holiday season and the end of the year.
Your supporters can share your Giving Tuesday crowdfunding campaign with their friends and families (using "#GivingTuesday" of course!), raising awareness about your mission, the social impact your organization is making, and the positive change you’re creating in the world.
How can crowdfunding help my nonprofit raise funds on Giving Tuesday?
Crowdfunding is a very effective way to raise funds because it utilizes an online donation page to garner support for your nonprofit or community organization on Giving Tuesday. A crowdfunding page allows individuals and groups to share your fundraising campaign with their social networks, inspiring friends, family, and colleagues to contribute and expand your reach.
An impactful crowdfunding page can also raise awareness for your mission while making donors feel appreciated. It also has the potential to inspire your supporters to contribute throughout the entire giving season.
For example, adding a goal meter to the page displays your organization’s progress toward reaching your campaign’s fundraising goal. A donor wall enables supporters to post their gifts publicly to encourage other people to give using the power of social proof. And sharing your nonprofit’s story through words and visuals helps showcase the impact a gift can have!
